Ongoing Project ProfilesCommunity Development through Training High School StudentsWith the initial funding from the Counterpart International's Initiative to Promote Afghan Civil Society (I-PACS), WADAN implemented this project with the objectives to promote, encourage and support the emergence of an educated, community service minded, democratic culture in Afghanistan strengthening and increasing civic minded awareness and practices in the targeted localities. The specific objectives of the project activities were to promote durable peace, national unity, democracy and citizens’ rights in Afghanistan through training 1,600 high school students. To empower the target communities through the education of their children toward good citizenship and participation in the political, cultural and socio-economic rehabilitation of Afghan society, and to advance the local building blocks necessary for sustainable development and representative government. Also, through the effective implementation of the project activities, decision making skills, critical thinking and ethical behavior were reinforced by lessons and practical activities to 1,600 high school students. WADAN also provided Training of Trainers (TOT) and trained its trainers in issues such as conflict resolution, peace-building, human rights, the rights of women and children, democracy, good citizenship and the formation of networks and unions. WADAN also conducted three-day school level workshops each with 50-55 students in thirty schools in Kabul, Kapisa, Parwan, Panjshir, Logar and Wardak provinces. Ultimately, WADAN organized students’ association general assembly meeting by facilitating the formation and institutional development of school, provincial and regional students’ network which eventually evolved into a national students association by holding one regional assembly where approximately 150 elected members of the students association were invited to attend the assembly in Kabul. The network was also involved in several regional, provincial and school level advocacy events. This project is completed. |
