Drug ControlDrug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Paktia Province![]() This 20-bed residential program provides comprehensive treatment to patients mainly from Paktia and occasionally from adjacent provinces. Established in January 2004, the center has (through April 2010) treated 1,747 male and female drug addicts in its residential and community-based treatment programs. Our staff has also offered awareness education about the negative effects of illicit drugs created to 18,837 social multipliers (students, teachers, farmers, local leaders, mullahs, and local government officials, law enforcement agencies, including both men and women). This is WADAN’s first treatment center and it received initial funding from ANBP-DDR. WADAN received an appreciation letter from the donor regarding its initial performance. The Commonwealth and Foreign Office of the United Kingdom funded the project through GTZ to maintain the center until March, 2009. Currently, WADAN is maintaining this center with the Drug Advisory Program of the Colombo Plan (CPDAP) with funding from INL. The capacity of the center increased from 15 to 20 beds with CPDAP/INL. This is a comprehensive center which has a vocational training component wherein recovering addicts are trained in various employable skills as to be occupied to help in minimizing relapse.
