Counter Narcotics Awareness Program in Nangarhar Province: 2003

This project was funded by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in October 2003, with the objective to create awareness against the ill effects of poppy cultivation, processing, consumption and trafficking in 21 districts of Nangarhar. WADAN conducted the project in all 21 districts of Nangarhar and created drug awareness among the communities.

More than 3,000 people participated in the events organized in the district headquarters of each district. We distributed the decrees of President Karzai banning poppy cultivation, organized lectures and speeches reinforcing anti drug messages and involved both print and electronic media to disseminate the anti drug information. We also conducted needs assessments in the target communities, collected the requests of the target communities and communicated them to the relevant government agencies, donors and aid organizations.
