Distinguished International Alumni Award

Mohammad Nasib, Managing Director of the Welfare Association for the Development of Afghanistan (WADAN) and 1992 Slippery Rock University (SRU) graduate, was named the recipient of the University’s first Distinguished International Alumni Award. The award was presented at the President’s Gala, a black-tie affair on September 9, 2006 at the Hilton in Pittsburgh.

Mohammad Nasib during his acceptance speech at Hilton, Pittsburgh "Slippery Rock University is proud of all of its graduates, and annually we have presented our Distinguished Alumni Award to illustrious graduates. I am proud to say this year, we have added a Distinguished International Alumni Award, and in selecting Mohammad Nasib, we salute our graduate who has truly distinguished himself and brought honor to his alma mater,” said SRU President Robert Smith. “I am proud to be able to point to such prominent, capable leaders who have given so much of themselves and their talents to their communities, their countries and their university, and to say these are ‘Slippery Rock University alumni."
Mohammad Nasib delivered a speech entitled “Afghanistan Today” at Slippery Rock University on September 7, the first speaker for the university’s new International Alumni Speaker Series.

In his speech, Nasib, who graduated summa cum laude from Slippery Rock University in 1992 with a degree in public administration and international comparative politics, talked about his experiences at SRU and how they molded his life and work in Afghanistan.

"At SRU, I was treated very well, received help when it was necessary, was encouraged to get involved in discussions and counseled academically and socially," Nasib said.
